As surplus crops pressure grain and soybean prices this year, Corn Belt farmers who rent land for production have taken a keen interest in analyzing the level of potential break-even rates of rent that can be paid to landlords.
Reports from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in August indicated that land values in 2016 did decrease nationally, and the overall cash rental rate in Iowa was $235/acre, down 6% from 2015.
With respect to Illinois cash rental rates, Todd Gleason recently tweeted the graph below that contained USDA data for the 2016 per acre county average rental rates in Illinois.
