App Saves Farmers Time When Delivering Grain to Elevators at Harvest

Marcus Jackson reported in Sunday’s News Gazette (Champaign, Il) that, “Farmers know how hectic harvest time can be.

“One of the more stressful elements is delivering grain to the elevators. There can be long waits and uncertainty as to when your truck will be back to the field to collect the next batch.

“However, farmers and their staff can use smartphones to save time and make decisions on which elevators to use based on information gathered by a mobile application.”

The Gazette article noted that, “John Deere’s GrainTruckPlus is a free application available on Apple’s iOS and Android’s operating systems. It rolled out on a trial basis last fall to rave reviews and went live earlier this month for use during the 2016 harvest season.

The app tells customers what the wait times are at particular elevators and lets them know when their drivers will be back to the field.”

Mr. Jackson added that, “The app was developed in Champaign at the John Deere Technical Center in conjunction with dealer AHW, which conducted beta testing. About a dozen farmers in the area used GrainTruckPlus during the trial phase and the expectation is thousands will use it later this year.”
